Steve has two decades of experience in public affairs, strategic communications, and brand development. Steve started his career in education teaching high school social studies in the Boston area for six years. After serving as a communications director at the U.S. Department of Education during the Clinton Administration, Steve became the first national public affairs director for the KIPP Foundation. For 16 years, Steve was the managing director for KIPP’s external communications as the network of public charter schools grew from a handful of sites in two cities to 250 schools located in 20 states. Following his work at KIPP, Steve was a principal at RALLY, an issues-advocacy communications firm, where he advised non-profit education clients, including the Charter School Growth Fund, ReGeneration Schools, National Council on Teacher Quality, Ascend Public Schools, and Accelerate Great Schools. Steve has a Master’s Degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a Bachelor of Arts from Amherst College. Steve’s three daughters keep him busy, but when he has time free, he can be found reading history or cheering on the Boston Celtics.
